Impact Narrative
As an organization, we have made significant progress in improving the lives of individuals with disabilities, as well as supporting other organizations that advocate for the rights and needs of persons with disabilities in Kasese District. Our efforts have concentrated on key areas such as advocacy, capacity building, economic empowerment, skills development, employment opportunities, supporting mobility and overall livelihood enhancement.
A cornerstone of our initiatives has been providing skills training to individuals with disabilities. To date, we have successfully trained 338 individuals in various trades, including welding, hairdressing, motor vehicle mechanics, carpentry, tailoring, shoe making, handicraft production, and acoustics. These skills not only increase employability but also empower individuals to establish their own businesses, making a positive impact on the local economy.
In addition to training, we have distributed 2,547 assistive devices to those in need. These devices, including wheelchairs, tricycles, calipers, raised shoes, artificial limbs, white canes, crutches, and surgical boots, have significantly improved mobility, enabling individuals to navigate their surroundings with greater ease and participate more fully in their communities. Understanding the heightened vulnerability of persons with disabilities during disasters, we have taken proactive steps to offer support in times of emergency. During the floods that affected many in the region, our organization provided essential relief items to 200 individuals with disabilities, helping alleviate some of the challenges they faced during such a difficult period.
To further empower individuals with disabilities and the communities they reside in, we have established 108 Inclusive Savings and Loan Associations (ISAVE). These associations have enabled approximately 2,400 members, including persons with disabilities, to access affordable loans and savings opportunities, fostering economic independence and supporting personal and professional growth.
Our rehabilitation programs have also had a profound impact. We have assisted 128 landmine victims in receiving artificial limbs from Kagando Hospital. Additionally, over 500 children with reversible disabilities have been referred to appropriate management services to ensure they receive the necessary care. In the areas of education and employment, we have worked to create greater opportunities for students with disabilities. Through affirmative action initiatives, we have enabled 32 students with disabilities to enroll in institutions of higher learning. Furthermore, 43 individuals with disabilities have successfully secured positions in public service, reflecting our commitment to promoting inclusivity within the workforce.
Through these efforts, our organization has made lasting changes that have enhanced the quality of life for persons with disabilities in Kasese District. Our work continues to foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for all.
